Kogi State Governor Alhaji Ahmed Ododo on Tuesday announced the discovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition following a joint security operation in the state.
Recovered items include 24 AK-47 rifles, 23 pump-action rifles, a Tavor rifle, an FN rifle, four Barrett pistols, four Browning rifles, 42 magazines, 520 rounds of GPMG 7.62 ammo, along with handcuffs, holsters, tear gas cartridges, and submachine gun components.
Governor Ododo said the operation resulted from over a week of intelligence-driven surveillance by security agencies in coordination with the state government. He credited the intensified crackdown to guidance from President Bola Tinubu, who urged him to strengthen security efforts rather than seek accolades.
“No arrests were made during the raid, but this recovery represents a major strategic breakthrough in the fight against crime,” Ododo said. He noted Kogi’s strategic location, sharing boundaries with ten states and serving as a critical corridor for criminal activity.
Ododo urged residents to support security agencies with timely and credible information, assuring the public that lives and property remain protected. He also praised the cooperation of security forces and reiterated that citizens can continue their lawful activities without fear.
