Ipswich Town have emerged as one of the biggest-spending promoted clubs in Premier League history after investing more than €178m on new players ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The Tractor Boys, back in the top flight after another promotion, have adopted an ambitious recruitment strategy under manager Gary O’Neil as they seek to avoid another immediate return to the Championship.
Ipswich’s current spending places them among the highest-investing promoted sides in Premier League history, although history shows that heavy spending does not always guarantee survival.
Sunderland currently top the list after spending €188.7m following their promotion in 2025. Nottingham Forest spent €155.2m after returning to the Premier League in 2022, while Aston Villa invested €148.6m after promotion in 2019.
Ipswich themselves spent around €125m after promotion in 2024 but were relegated after one season before securing an immediate return.
This summer, the club have strengthened across several positions, bringing in players including Sasa Lukic, Issa Diop and Florentino Luis, while also investing in younger talents.
The return of Julio Enciso has further strengthened their attacking options.
With spending continuing before the transfer window closes, Ipswich will hope their significant investment translates into Premier League survival this time around.
