The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recorded over 3.4 million new voters in the ongoing second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise across Nigeria.
According to INEC’s week 13 update released in Abuja, a total of 3,441,121 registrations were completed as of April 3, 2026. The figure includes both online pre-registrations and physical walk-ins at designated centres nationwide.
Out of the total registrations, 2,068,384 Nigerians completed their registration online, while 1,372,737 registered physically.
Top States with Highest Registrations
State-by-state data shows that Jigawa State recorded the highest number of registrants with 201,047, accounting for 5.84% of the total. Lagos followed with 181,095 registrations, while Kano ranked third with 177,681.
Youth and Women Dominate Voter Registration
Youth participation remains a key highlight of the exercise, with citizens aged 18 to 34 accounting for 2,354,768 registrations, representing 68.43% of the total.
In terms of gender distribution, women recorded a higher turnout, with 1,922,143 registrations (55.86%), compared to 1,518,978 males (44.14%).
Students Lead Occupational Breakdown
Students made up the largest group of new voters, with 1,235,931 registrations (35.92%). This was followed by individuals in business (701,912) and those in farming and fishing (615,967).
INEC also disclosed that 48,330 Persons with Disabilities successfully registered during the period.
Data Verification Ongoing
The commission noted that the figures remain provisional and subject to data clean-up. This process will include citizens’ claims and objections, as well as verification using the Automated Biometric Identification System.
INEC also confirmed that voter registration is currently suspended in the Federal Capital Territory in line with the Electoral Act 2022, following the recent Area Council elections.
Call for Eligible Nigerians
INEC has urged all eligible Nigerians who are yet to register to visit its official platforms and complete their registration before the deadline.
