The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has assured residents of Kwara State that security agencies will reclaim communities from criminal elements through intensified operations.
Disu gave the assurance on Monday in Ilorin while addressing security stakeholders and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force during his first official visit to the state since his appointment.
He said communities affected by banditry and violent crimes would be restored through sustained security efforts, stressing that criminals would not be allowed to take over towns.
The police chief also urged residents to support security agencies with credible intelligence and warned against ethnic profiling, noting that crime should not be attributed to any ethnic group.
During the visit, Disu met with Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq at the Government House, while the state Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, said the IGP’s visit had boosted officers’ morale.
Kwara, once regarded as relatively peaceful, has recently recorded rising cases of banditry and kidnapping, particularly in rural areas such as Ifelodun, Pategi, Kaima, Irepodun and Osin. Authorities say intensified security operations are underway to restore peace in the affected communities.
