Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn has denied reports claiming a Joshua vs. Fury fight is signed. Respected journalist Gareth A Davies previously stated the all-British heavyweight bout is finalized. Davies claimed major financial backers had confirmed the fight, and it would air on Netflix.
However, Hearn firmly rejected these assertions in an interview with The Stomping Ground. “There is absolutely nothing signed with Anthony Joshua to fight Tyson Fury next,” he said. The promoter acknowledged discussions had occurred before Joshua’s tragic car accident on December 29. The crash on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway claimed lives of his friends and personal trainers.
Joshua had just defeated Jake Paul in six rounds in Miami before the tragedy. Hearn explained plans included Joshua fighting Paul, then a Saudi Arabia match, followed by Fury. The accident, however, halted these discussions, delaying any concrete agreements with Fury. Recently, conversations have only touched on revisiting potential plans for a future showdown.
Joshua has resumed training and targets a summer comeback, potentially against Dillian Whyte. A successful return could pave the way for a fight with Fury later in the year. Meanwhile, Tyson Fury returns to the ring on April 11 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He will face knockout specialist Arslanbek Makhmudov on a Netflix card alongside Conor Benn.
Fury had previously retired over a year ago but later reversed that decision. Fans eagerly await both heavyweights’ returns and hope for a future blockbuster matchup. Hearn insists any Joshua-Fury fight is speculative at this stage, with no signed contracts.
