Ghana has dismissed coach Otto Addo following a recent international friendly defeat. The decision came shortly after a disappointing loss to Germany raised concerns about team performance. On Monday, the Ghana national football team suffered a 2-1 defeat in Stuttgart.
Although Ghana showed resilience, a late goal from Deniz Undav sealed their fate. Furthermore, the defeat extended Ghana’s losing streak to four consecutive matches. Earlier, Austria defeated the team 5-1 in a heavy loss. As a result, pressure intensified on the coaching staff and overall team direction.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association expressed gratitude for Addo’s contributions. However, officials emphasized the need for a new strategic direction ahead of major competitions. They also confirmed plans to announce a replacement coach soon. Addo, aged 50, assumed leadership of the team in March 2024.
During his tenure, he aimed to rebuild and strengthen squad performance. Nevertheless, recent results failed to meet expectations and raised serious concerns. Looking ahead, Ghana faces a challenging group at the upcoming FIFA World Cup. They will compete against England, Croatia, and Panama. Therefore, the team must quickly adapt to remain competitive on the global stage.
