Turkey’s top clubs, Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe, are preparing a January transfer showdown for Ademola Lookman. The Nigeria international has grown frustrated at Atalanta after a blocked summer move to Inter Milan. Inter’s €45m offer fell short of Atalanta’s €50m demand, increasing tension between player and club. Lookman even walked out of training briefly, signaling his desire for a fresh start.
His frustration peaked during Atalanta’s Champions League clash with Marseille, involving a heated exchange with former coach Ivan Juric. Juric’s dismissal is unlikely to improve Lookman’s current situation at Bergamo. Despite a contract running until June 2027, the winger is keen to explore other opportunities. European clubs, including Atletico Madrid and Tottenham, are reportedly preparing renewed offers in January.
In Turkey, Galatasaray sees Lookman as a potential marquee signing alongside Victor Osimhen. Fenerbahçe has tracked him for months and even submitted a rejected offer after the summer window. Yet, concerns over Lookman’s recent form may slow Galatasaray’s pursuit. Last season, he scored 15 goals and provided five assists, but he has managed just one goal in seven Serie A matches this season.
Atalanta’s new coach, Raffaele Palladino, may reintegrate Lookman, but the club will evaluate his form and attitude. Galatasaray reportedly offered €9m per year, enticing Lookman with a chance to lead a Nigerian-inspired attack. If negotiations proceed, the Turkish giants could secure one of Serie A’s most promising wingers in January.
