As the Easter holiday approaches, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command, is calling on all motorists to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations to ensure a safe and accident-free celebration.
Mr. Memee Timothy, the Ifo Unit Commander of the FRSC, issued this advisory during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Ota, Ogun State. He emphasized the importance of road safety during festive periods, particularly during Easter, when traffic volume typically increases.
Key Easter Travel Safety Tips from FRSC
Timothy advised drivers to avoid common but dangerous driving behaviors that often lead to accidents. These include:
- Excessive speeding
- Wrongful overtaking
- Driving against traffic
- Overloading vehicles
- Driving under the influence of alcohol
“These reckless actions are major contributors to road crashes and unnecessary loss of lives,” he warned.
FRSC Deploys Personnel for Easter Road Safety Operations
To ensure smooth traffic flow and prompt emergency response, the FRSC will deploy personnel across key areas in Ogun State. Officers will be stationed at strategic locations, including road construction sites, to monitor traffic, manage congestion, and assist with any road incidents.
Timothy added, “Our officers will be actively checking for overloading, valid driver’s licences, and general compliance with road safety laws throughout the Easter period.”
Cooperation Encouraged for a Hitch-Free Easter Celebration
The FRSC is also appealing to all road users to cooperate with its personnel and collaborate with other law enforcement agencies to maintain order and safety during the holiday season.
“We are fully committed to ensuring that all travelers arrive safely at their destinations. With collective responsibility and compliance, we can make this Easter celebration free of road crashes and fatalities,” Timothy concluded.
