Former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Jumoke Akinjide, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State. She submitted her resignation in a letter addressed to the Ward 1 Chairman of the PDP in Ona-Ara Local Government Area on Monday.
In the letter, Akinjide explained that her decision followed careful personal reflection. She emphasized, “This decision was not taken lightly, given my membership in the party since 2001.” The letter, titled “Letter of Resignation from the PDP,”.Akinjide expressed gratitude for the opportunities she enjoyed during her tenure. She highlighted the relationships, experiences, and political platforms the party provided. She also wished the PDP continued success in its future endeavors.
A close associate, Alhaji Kehinde Olaosebikan, confirmed the resignation. Olaosebikan, a former Oluyole Local Government Area chairman, stated, “It is true; the former minister has resigned from the PDP.” Akinjide’s political career spans over two decades. She served as Minister of State for the FCT under former President Goodluck Jonathan from 2011 to 2015.
In 2014, she briefly acted as Supervising Minister for Police Affairs. Earlier, between May 2001 and September 2003, she worked as Special Assistant to the President on FCT Matters and later on G77 and Nigerians in the Diaspora. Her departure marks a significant shift in Oyo State politics and ends a long chapter of loyalty to the PDP.
