A major fire outbreak on Tuesday destroyed the RSK Adebowale Multipurpose Filling Station, a petrol tanker and a motorcycle at Ofiki area, Saki, in Oyo State.
The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Mr Moroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident on Wednesday, saying the agency received a distress call from IPMAN’s Saki Branch Chairman, Alhaji Mufutau Badmus.
Firefighters, led by Mr Kolade Taiwo, rushed to the scene and found the filling station, a DAF tanker carrying 50,000 litres of petrol, a Bajaj motorcycle, and three fuel pumps already engulfed in flames.
Akinwande said the fire was successfully extinguished, preventing it from spreading to nearby properties. He commended personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ofiki for providing security during the operation.
He also urged filling station owners across the state to strictly adhere to fire safety regulations.
The incident comes days after a similar fire on January 9 destroyed vehicles and a community power house at a filling station in Kara, Kishi, following an explosion.
