The Federal Government has praised the Super Eagles for their remarkable performance at AFCON 2025. Despite exiting at the semi-final stage, Nigerians remain proud of the team’s resilience and spirit.
Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, released a statement commending the players for representing Nigeria with dignity. He emphasized that character, teamwork, and commitment define the national team, not just match outcomes.
“Even in defeat, you displayed courage, unity, and perseverance,” Idris said, highlighting the team’s effort. The minister described the green and white jersey as a symbol of national pride and courage. He noted that playing for Nigeria extends beyond winning, it embodies honor, determination, and resilience.
Idris urged the players to learn from this experience and strengthen their unity for future tournaments. “Hold your heads high and return stronger; Nigeria appreciates the joy and hope you gave us,” he added. The Super Eagles were eliminated after losing 4–2 in a penalty shootout to Morocco on Wednesday.
The match ended goalless in extra time, showcasing strong goalkeeping from Stanley Nwabali and Yassine Bounou. Morocco dominated possession, creating 16 shots compared to Nigeria’s two, challenging the visitors’ defense. Nigeria’s key attackers, Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, struggled to penetrate Morocco’s organized defense.
Despite the loss, the team’s determination earned admiration both at home and among Nigerians abroad. The government reaffirmed its support, encouraging the Super Eagles to prepare for future victories.
