The Imo and Plateau State Police Commands have announced a total ban on fireworks and knockouts ahead of the festive season. The measure aims to prevent injuries, fires, and public disturbances during Christmas and New Year celebrations.
In Imo State, DSP Okoye Henry confirmed the ban in a statement on X, emphasizing that all forms of pyrotechnics are prohibited. Violators will be arrested and prosecuted. The command warned that anyone selling, possessing, or using fireworks during public holidays, community events, or private celebrations will face legal action. Regular patrols and targeted operations will be intensified to enforce full compliance.
CP Aboki Danjuma urged residents to cooperate with security operatives and report illegal fireworks activities. He assured the public that enhanced security measures are in place for a safe and peaceful Yuletide.
Similarly, the Plateau State Police Command announced a statewide ban, citing public safety and security as the primary reasons. SP Alfred Alabo noted that fireworks often create panic and disturb peace. Violators will also be arrested and prosecuted under the law.
The state Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, called on parents, guardians, and religious leaders to educate children and congregations about the ban. Their cooperation is crucial to maintaining a peaceful environment before, during, and after the holidays.
Both commands reaffirmed their commitment to upholding peace, safety, and security throughout the festive season. Previous bans in states like Kwara, Ogun, Rivers, the FCT, and Delta.
