Dangote Industries Limited has commenced preliminary preparations for a deep-sea port project at the Olokola Free Trade Zone in Ogun State, marking a major push into maritime infrastructure, logistics, and export-led industrialisation.
The multi-billion-dollar project aligns with the company’s Vision 2030 strategy and is expected to transform the group into a globally competitive industrial powerhouse.
Located within the Olokola Free Trade Zone, spanning Ogun Waterside and extending toward Ilaje in Ondo State, the proposed seaport will serve as a major logistics and trade hub for imports, exports, and regional commerce.
During stakeholder engagements, a delegation led by Capt. Jamil Abubakar visited host communities in Ogun and Ondo states to initiate consultations ahead of project execution, emphasizing inclusive development and long-term benefits. He explained that the Olokola port would reduce pressure on existing ports, boost trade efficiency, and create employment opportunities while strengthening Nigeria’s position in global maritime trade.
The project will also support exports of petrochemicals, fertilisers, and refined petroleum products, while enabling LNG export potential and facilitating heavy equipment imports for industrial growth. Furthermore, the initiative is expected to attract foreign investment, stimulate manufacturing, and enhance Nigeria’s participation in the African Continental Free Trade Area.
Community leaders across Ogun and Ondo States have expressed optimism, pledging cooperation as surveys, compensation processes, and environmental assessments commence across the project corridor. According to Dangote Industries Limited, continuous engagement with stakeholders will remain central to ensuring sustainable development, shared prosperity, and successful execution of the deep-sea port project in Nigeria growth trajectory.
