Popular Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, widely known as Portable, has been granted bail set at ₦1 million by an Upper Area Court in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The bail follows his arrest on Sunday, April 13, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, after a petition was filed by Fuji music legend Saheed Osupa. Portable was accused of criminal defamation, threats to life, character assassination, and inciting public disturbance.
The court stipulated that Portable must provide two sureties one being a PMAN (Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria) official, and the other, a property owner in a Government Reserved Area (GRA) with a valid Certificate of Occupancy.
The controversy began in March when Portable posted a video insulting Saheed Osupa after the Fuji icon allegedly had his song “Fuji Shakushaku” removed from Apple Music due to copyright issues. The track reportedly mimicked Osupa’s signature style.
However, on March 20, Portable publicly apologized in Yoruba, expressing regret and calling Osupa an inspiration, stating that his earlier reaction was fueled by frustration over the takedown.
At 31, Portable remains one of Nigeria’s most controversial music figures, often making headlines for legal and public disputes.
