Chiamaka Nnadozie, Super Falcons goalkeeper made an immediate impact in her Brighton and Hove Albion debut. Producing a commanding performance in goal during a goalless draw against Aston Villa on the opening weekend of the 2025/26 Women’s Super League season.
The 24-year-old, who arrived at Brighton in the summer transfer window. After leaving French side Paris FC, started between the posts for new head coach Dario Vidosic. Despite facing pressure from Villa’s quick attacking players, Nnadozie stood firm, delivering a composed display that earned her the Player of the Match award.
Throughout the match, the Nigerian international kept her defense organized while pulling off four crucial saves to deny Villa’s forwards. Her confidence in possession was also evident as she completed 46 touches. Helping Brighton control phases of play and ease pressure at critical moments. The clean sheet not only marked a strong debut but also gave the Seagulls valuable confidence to build on.
Speaking after the hard-fought stalemate, Vidosic praised his team’s resilience, especially in transition. “We knew Villa would look to exploit spaces with their pace. I thought we handled it really well, particularly in the second half. When we managed to settle and show good spells of football,” the coach explained.
Although chances were limited for both sides, Brighton’s defensive solidity, anchored by Nnadozie, ensured they shared the points with their visitors. The performance reinforced why the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year is considered one of the most reliable shot-stoppers in world football.
As the WSL season progresses, Brighton will look to convert defensive strength into attacking success. With Nnadozie expected to remain a key figure in the club’s ambitions for a strong campaign.
