The Confederation of African Football has issued multiple sanctions following incidents during the 2025 AFCON final. CAF announced the disciplinary actions on Wednesday through an official statement on its website. The sanctions targeted Senegal, Morocco, several players, and technical officials involved in the final.
CAF cited violations of fair play, loyalty, and integrity under its Disciplinary Code. CAF suspended Senegal head coach Pape Bouna Thiaw for five official matches. The suspension followed his unsporting conduct and actions that damaged football’s reputation. CAF also fined Thiaw one hundred thousand dollars for his misconduct.
Senegal forward Iliman Ndiaye received a two-match suspension for referee abuse. CAF similarly suspended Ismaila Sarr for two matches due to unsporting referee conduct. CAF fined the Senegalese federation three hundred thousand dollars over supporter misconduct. Another three hundred thousand dollar fine followed misconduct by Senegal’s players and officials.
CAF further imposed a fifteen thousand dollar fine after five Senegalese players received cautions. Regarding Morocco, CAF suspended defender Achraf Hakimi for two official matches. One match suspension remains suspended for one year, pending future conduct.Midfielder Ismael Saibari received a three-match ban and a hundred thousand dollar fine.
CAF fined Morocco two hundred thousand dollars for inappropriate ball boy behaviour. Another fine followed player and staff interference with the VAR review process. CAF also penalised Moroccan supporters for laser usage during the match. CAF rejected Morocco’s protest against Senegal over alleged tournament regulation breaches.
