African footballers continued to make their mark across Europe’s major leagues at the weekend, with Mohamed Belloumi, Serhou Guirassy and Akor Adams among the headline performers.
In England, Algerian winger Mohamed Belloumi scored twice as promoted Hull City secured a 2-2 draw away to Chelsea. Belloumi struck twice in the first half to help the Tigers extend their unbeaten Premier League run to four matches.
The 20-year-old’s brace marked his first two league goals since Hull returned to the top flight after a 10-year absence and earned the club a valuable point at Stamford Bridge.
Mali-born midfielder Malick Yalcouye was also on the scoresheet for Brighton in their 5-0 victory over 10-man Coventry. The youngster scored Brighton’s second goal of the match, recording his second league goal of the season.
In Spain, Ghana international Inaki Williams rescued a point for Athletic Bilbao in a 1-1 draw against Elche. The striker scored from close range late in the match for his first goal of the campaign.
Nigeria striker Akor Adams opened the scoring for struggling Venezia against Fiorentina in Serie A, but his goal was not enough as the visitors recovered to win 4-2.
In Germany, Cameroon forward Christian Kofane scored an impressive opener for Bayer Leverkusen in their 2-2 draw at Augsburg, while Guinea international Guirassy played a key role in Borussia Dortmund’s 3-0 win over Paderborn despite having two goals ruled out for offside.
In France, Senegal international Abdallah Sima helped Lens fight back from two goals down against Le Mans, scoring in stoppage time at the end of the first half as the match ended 2-2. It was his first league goal of the season.
