The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) has distributed N2.3 trillion among the Federal Government, state governments and local government councils from May 2026 revenue. The allocation represents an increase of N43 billion compared to the previous month and reflects continued growth in federation revenues. According to FAAC, stronger collections from Companies Income Tax, Petroleum Profit Tax, Hydrocarbon Tax and oil royalties helped offset declines in Value Added Tax and import duty revenues. Of the total amount shared, the Federal Government received over N818 billion, states received about N759 billion, while local governments received more than N534 billion. The latest figures…
England began their World Cup campaign with an entertaining 4-2 victory over Croatia in a high-scoring encounter played in Texas. Harry Kane scored twice in the first half, while Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford added further goals to secure the win. Croatia twice fought back to level the match through Martin Baturina and Petar Musa, but England’s attacking quality ultimately proved decisive. The victory provides a strong start for coach Thomas Tuchel, who is aiming to guide England to their first major international trophy since 1966.
Petrol imports into Nigeria increased by 59.5 per cent in May despite continued growth in domestic refining, according to data released by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). The report showed that daily petrol imports rose from 3.7 million litres in April to 5.9 million litres in May, while domestic refinery output also increased slightly. Industry observers attribute the increase in imports to declining crude oil supplies to local refineries and the need to bridge temporary supply gaps. Although local refineries now account for nearly 88 per cent of the country’s petrol supply, stakeholders say consistent crude feedstock…

The government acknowledged residents’ concerns and said agencies responsible for environmental management have been instructed to work round the clock to clear waste backlogs. Officials noted that Lagos generates approximately 13,000 tonnes of waste daily, making waste management a major challenge. While describing the situation as temporary, the state assured residents that noticeable improvements are already being recorded and urged the public to support sanitation efforts by disposing of waste responsibly and keeping drainage channels…

The party also welcomed the intervention of the Court of Appeal in the dispute over the deregistration of some political parties, describing the decision as a victory for democracy. Petroleum marketers have indicated that petrol prices could decline to around N1,200 per litre following a fresh reduction in prices by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery. The refinery reduced its ex-depot price from N1,250 to N1,175 per litre, citing easing tensions in the Middle East and falling global crude oil prices. While many filling stations are yet to adjust their pump prices due to existing stock purchased at higher rates, marketers say consumers should begin to see reductions in the coming days. Industry stakeholders believe the development could provide much-needed relief to Nigerians after months of high fuel costs driven by…

The three goals took Messi’s World Cup tally to 16, drawing level with former Germany striker Miroslav Klose. Despite the milestone, Messi downplayed the achievement, describing it as just a statistic and focusing instead on helping Argentina defend their World Cup title. The 38-year-old expressed gratitude to his teammates, family and supporters, while coach Lionel Scaloni praised his enduring influence on the team. The performance further strengthened Argentina’s status as one of the favourites in…
