The penultimate day of the MTN CHAMPS grand finale delivered thrilling athletics performances. The event took place at Lekan Salami Stadium on Thursday. Athletes competed fiercely as several finals produced standout results across multiple events. In the senior men’s 400m, Ezekiel Asuquo dominated the race confidently. He secured victory with an impressive time of 46.60 seconds.
Jules Waiga finished second, while Wisdom Alexander claimed third position. Meanwhile, Miracle Uwem Donald shined in the women’s 400m final. She recorded a personal best time of 54.07 seconds. Joy Ayomide finished second, followed closely by Adepoju Adedoyin in third place.The junior men’s 400m produced one of the closest races of the day.
David Dominion Udoh narrowly defeated Kazali Iddrisu to retain his title.Udoh clocked 46.62 seconds, edging Iddrisu’s 46.68 seconds finish. Similarly, Treasure Okereke impressed in the junior women’s 400m event. She claimed gold with a strong time of 53.30 seconds. Becky Ebiyade and Faith Ezechukwu completed the podium positions.
Attention then shifted to the 200m heats and semi-finals. Marizuk Shaibu emerged as the fastest qualifier in the men’s category. Taofikat Sulaimon led the women’s semi-finals with a strong performance. In field events, Samuel Kure dominated the men’s javelin competition. He threw 79.39 meters to secure a well-deserved victory. Gowon Oghenerunor also excelled in the junior long jump event.
