The arrest of Nigerian national Theophilis Anwana by U.S. Immigration authorities has reignited calls for stricter deportation of criminal migrants.
Anwana, previously convicted of second-degree rape in Baltimore, Maryland, and sentenced to 20 years in prison, had remained in the U.S. despite a final removal order issued in September 2021. He was rearrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on August 29 and now faces deportation.
ICE Baltimore described Anwana as a “dangerous criminal illegal alien” and confirmed he will remain in custody pending removal.
The arrest has sparked strong reactions on social media, with many U.S. citizens urging ICE to increase deportation efforts against criminal migrants. Some users called for the deportation of tens of thousands of illegal residents, highlighting public concern over crime and national security.
