The trial of Adeniyi Kayode, 46, driver in the crash injuring Anthony Joshua, was adjourned. The incident occurred on December 29 along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when Kayode’s Lexus SUV collided with a stationary truck. Prosecutors requested more time to prepare evidence, prompting the court to move proceedings to March 13.
Kayode appeared before a Sagamu magistrate’s court in Ogun State for his second hearing. He has not yet entered a plea and faces four charges related to the accident. These include causing death by dangerous driving, reckless driving, and driving without a valid licence. The crash killed Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength coach, Sina Ghami, instantly.
Joshua suffered minor injuries and was discharged from the hospital two days after the collision. Kayode had served as Joshua’s personal driver for three years before the tragic incident. Joshua’s family expressed understanding, stating they do not want Kayode jailed, citing faith and compassion.
Adedamola, Joshua’s relative, emphasized that accidents can happen anywhere and urged the public to move forward. Despite the tragedy, Joshua remains focused on his boxing career and honoring his late friends.
Promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed Joshua aims to return to the ring by July 2026. Fans continue to send support messages to the boxer as he navigates grief and recovery. Authorities continue to investigate the crash while Kayode awaits his next court appearance.
