Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, revealed how his father’s death changed his life forever. He shared this personal story during the 7th Convocation Lecture at Mountain Top University. Eno’s father, a police officer, died in the line of duty, leaving the family struggling.
To support his mother, young Eno hawked soft drinks on the streets of Lagos. Even as a Senior Prefect at Victory High School, he embraced responsibility and hard work. These early struggles laid the foundation for his entrepreneurial and leadership journey.O
ver time, he built one of Akwa Ibom’s largest hospitality conglomerates successfully. Eno encouraged graduates to dream big, stay creative, and avoid entitlement or shortcuts. He emphasized that modern society demands innovation and courage to challenge long-held norms.
Generation X youths, he warned, often seek immediate gratification without sufficient effort. Faith, ethics, and perseverance, he stated, are critical for lasting success in life. Eno credited his achievements to divine guidance and the support of destiny helpers.
He urged young Nigerians to start ventures, nurture growth, and pursue dreams diligently. Despite political, entrepreneurial, and pastoral roles, he maintains humility and compassion for others. Professor Daniel Olukoya and Professor Elijah Adebowale Ayolabi lauded Eno for his inspiring lecture.
