Emotional Moment After Nigeria’s Big Win
Super Eagles striker Akor Adams has revealed that his mother was hospitalised shortly before Nigeria’s 4–0 victory over Mozambique in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations round-of-16 match on Monday.
Adams scored his first goal of the tournament in the 70th minute, capping a dominant performance by Nigeria.
Strong All-Round Display
The 25-year-old forward played a key role throughout the match. He provided the assist for Ademola Lookman’s opening goal and was involved in Nigeria’s second goal, which Victor Osimhen finished clinically.
His strike sealed Nigeria’s emphatic win and booked the Super Eagles a place in the quarter-finals.
Goal Dedicated to His Mother
Speaking to journalists in the mixed zone after the game, Adams dedicated the goal to his mother. He disclosed that she was meant to be in the stadium but could not attend due to health reasons.
“Glory to God for scoring my first AFCON goal, like many of you have been waiting for,” Adams said.
“But the goal is dedicated to my mum. She was supposed to be here, but she’s in the hospital.”
He added that his mother was admitted earlier in the day but was responding well to treatment.
“She was admitted this morning, but she’s much better now,” he said.
Growing Impact in the Super Eagles
The goal brings Adams’ Super Eagles record to three goals and three assists in eight appearances for Nigeria.
He made his senior national team debut in October 2025 during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Adams marked the occasion with a goal in Nigeria’s 2–1 victory over Lesotho.
