Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He cited ongoing leadership crises at the party’s national level as the reason for his departure.
Adeleke shared the news on his Instagram page on Monday night, confirming that he submitted his resignation to PDP officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government, on November 4, 2025. He stated, “Due to the ongoing crisis within the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (#OfficialPDPNig), I officially conveyed my resignation letter as a member to the party leadership in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government on November 4, 2025.”
He expressed gratitude to the party, its members, and supporters for the opportunities he received. Adeleke highlighted his journey first as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and later as Governor of Osun State.
Earlier reports suggested that Adeleke might not seek the PDP’s nomination for the 2026 governorship election unless internal conflicts were resolved. The party leadership had hoped that a resolution, recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), could change his mind.
However, Adeleke’s decision remains firm until the crises within the party are addressed and officially recognised by INEC. Analysts suggest that his resignation could influence the PDP’s strategy ahead of the Osun governorship poll.
Governor Adeleke’s exit underscores the impact of internal party disputes on political stability. As the 2026 elections approach, attention now turns to how PDP will resolve leadership conflicts and retain key political figures in Osun State.
