Adamu Atiku Abubakar, first son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has resigned as Adamawa State Commissioner for Works and Energy Development.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Abdulaziz Jauro, Adamu confirmed that he formally stepped down in a letter dated March 2, 2026, thanking Governor Ahmadu Fintiri for the opportunity to serve.
He described his tenure as an honour and expressed appreciation to ministry staff and the people of Jada for their support. Adamu also acknowledged his father’s moral backing during his time in office.
His resignation comes days after Governor Fintiri defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Adamu was absent during the defection announcement at the Government House.
Sources close to the former vice president indicated that Adamu may be preparing for a senatorial bid, while his half-brother, Abba Atiku, is expected to contest for the House of Representatives under the APC platform.
Adamu stated that his resignation does not mark the end of his commitment to public service, pledging continued contributions to the development of Adamawa State.
