Emadeb Petroleum Exploration & Production Company Limited has achieved a major industry milestone with the launch of commercial crude oil production from its Ibom Field in PPL 236. This accomplishment comes as Nigeria intensifies efforts to raise its crude output and strengthen performance within OPEC. According to the company, production began in October after years of investment, engineering work, and regulatory approvals that enabled the successful development of the offshore field located about 30 kilometres from the shoreline.
The achievement highlights the expanding influence of indigenous companies in Nigeria’s upstream sector. With the Federal Government pushing to increase production and stabilise foreign exchange earnings. Emadeb’s progress demonstrates how homegrown operators are playing a growing role in national output.
In its statement, the company noted that first oil underscores its emergence as a fully integrated energy player. Emadeb added that the milestone aligns with Nigeria’s wider push to enhance energy security and diversify the economy. Since acquiring the field in the 2020 Marginal Field Bid Round. Major technical milestones leading to first oil included the drilling and completion of the Ibom-03 well in September 2023. The integration of a Mobile Producing Offshore Unit in June 2025, and the commissioning of a mooring system in September 2025.
Moving forward, Emadeb is preparing for Phase Two. This involves drilling two additional wells designed to triple production by the fourth quarter of 2026. The company says it will continue prioritising operational excellence, environmental responsibility, and strong community engagement.
As Nigeria works to overcome persistent production challenges, the Ibom Field stands out as a promising example of how reforms under the Petroleum Industry Act are enabling indigenous operators to deliver meaningful results.
