Senator Ned Nwoko has denied claims by his estranged wife, Regina Daniels, that he married her when she was 17.
In a statement on Thursday, the Delta North lawmaker described the report as “false and malicious,” saying Regina was 21 at the time of their marriage.
According to Nwoko, Regina showed him her INEC voter’s card, which listed her date of birth as October 10, 1998. He said their marriage took place six years ago, making her 27 years old today.
The senator also claimed that Regina’s recent comments were influenced by her “current mental state” and an abandoned drug rehabilitation process.
Their public fallout has escalated in recent weeks after Regina alleged that Nwoko introduced her to drugs. The senator denied the accusation, blaming her brother, Sammy, for her substance use.
The controversy deepened after Sammy was arrested and later released on bail, while Regina revealed that her estranged parents had reconciled amid the crisis.
