Denmark international Christian Eriksen has joined Wolfsburg on a free transfer, the Bundesliga club confirmed on Wednesday. The 33-year-old midfielder signed a contract until 2027 after leaving Manchester United at the end of last season.
“I’m really looking forward to this new adventure. I’m convinced that together we can make a difference in Wolfsburg,” Eriksen said in his first statement as a Wolfsburg player.
Career Journey: From Cardiac Arrest to Bundesliga Return
Eriksen’s move to Germany marks the next step in an inspiring career comeback. The midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest during Euro 2021 but returned to professional football after being fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD).
Due to Italian medical regulations, he had to leave Inter Milan, later enjoying a strong spell at Brentford before signing for Manchester United in 2022. Though he started well at Old Trafford, Eriksen eventually fell out of favour under Erik ten Hag and later Ruben Amorim, leading to his departure in the summer of 2025.
Wolfsburg’s Danish Connection
Wolfsburg is now Eriksen’s third club since his comeback and adds to a growing Danish presence in the squad. He joins compatriots Joakim Maehle, Jesper Lindstrom, Andreas Skov Olsen, Jonas Wind, and Adam Daghim, becoming the sixth Dane in the team.
Eriksen’s International Legacy
With 144 caps and 46 goals for Denmark, Eriksen remains one of the country’s most influential players. His move to Wolfsburg ensures he will continue playing at the top level ahead of future international tournaments.
