Filmmaker Tyler Perry, known for Acrimony and the Madea films, is facing a $260 million lawsuit. Actor Derek Dixon, who played Dale on BET’s The Oval, accused him of sexual assault and harassment.
In a September 9, 2025, interview with ABC News, Dixon said Perry blurred professional lines and created a coercive work environment.
Derek Dixon’s Allegations
Dixon claimed Perry assaulted him at his Atlanta home. He alleged the producer pulled down his underwear and grabbed his buttocks.
He said he feared losing his job if he refused Perry’s advances. Dixon also accused Perry of breaking a promise to produce a pilot he wrote, which he says Perry still controls.
The $260 million lawsuit covers lost income and seeks to deter future abuse.
“Part of that number is my lost job, my lost income, the loss of a show,” Dixon said. “The other part is a deterrent—how do you stop a billionaire who won’t stop themselves?”
Why Dixon Went Public
Dixon said he spoke out to protect younger actors.
“Never exploit someone’s aspirations to coerce them into a relationship. That’s unprofessional,” he told ABC News.
Perry’s Response
Perry’s lawyer, Matthew Boyd, denied the claims.
“This is an individual who got close to Tyler Perry for what now appears to be an elaborate scam. Tyler will not be coerced, and we are confident these unfounded harassment claims will not succeed,” Boyd said.
So far, Perry has denied all accusations. Dixon remains the only public accuser.
