Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has started treatment. After sustaining an ankle sprain while representing Nigeria in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The forward picked up the injury during the Super Eagles’ narrow 1-0 win over Rwanda in Uyo on Saturday.
Osimhen was forced off midway through the first half after a challenge from Claude Niyomugabo left him in visible discomfort. He was immediately replaced by Cyriel Dessers, but the substitute failed to create the same attacking threat. Nigeria eventually secured victory through second-half substitute Tolu Arokodare, who scored in the 51st minute to keep their qualification hopes alive.
Initially, Nigeria’s medical team believed Osimhen had only suffered a shin bruise. Super Eagles media officer Promise Efoghe confirmed the diagnosis, adding that the striker woke up on Sunday with increased discomfort. As a result, he did not travel with the squad to South Africa for Tuesday’s crucial qualifier in Bloemfontein.
Following his return to Turkey, Galatasaray carried out further examinations. Team doctor Dr. Yener Slim revealed in a statement that scans showed a moderate ankle ligament sprain involving tension and bleeding. He confirmed that treatment has already begun to accelerate Osimhen’s recovery and ensure his swift return to action.
The injury now casts doubt on Osimhen’s availability for Galatasaray’s upcoming league fixture against Eyüpspor on Saturday. His absence would be a major blow for the Turkish giants, as the Nigerian forward has already netted two goals in three league matches this season. Galatasaray currently sit top of the table with 12 points, and his presence has been instrumental in their strong start.
Galatasaray striker Osimhen, who completed a permanent €75m move from Napoli this summer after a successful loan spell, will be keen to recover quickly and continue his fine form for both club and country.
