Lagos State will make history in October 2025 as the first African city to host the E1 Series Electric Boat Racing Championship. The event will run on October 4–5 and place Lagos on the global sports and tourism map.
Lagos Secures the Bid
At a press briefing, Rodi Basso, CEO of the E1 Series, confirmed Lagos beat top cities to win the bid. He called it a milestone for sport, commerce, and sustainability.
Boost for Tourism and Economy
Sam Egube, Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Sanwo-Olu, said the race shows Lagos’ strength as the “City of Aquatic Splendour.” He noted it will boost tourism, create jobs, and attract investment.
Focus on Sustainability
The event supports Lagos’ THEMES+ agenda on climate action. Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, unveiled the Omi Eko Project, which will launch 72 electric boats to ease traffic and promote clean energy.
Lagos on the Global Stage
Tourism officials urged local businesses to tap into the opportunities. Sports experts say the E1 race will showcase Lagos’ culture, drive revenue, and strengthen its global reputation.
