The international friendly between Nigeria’s Super Falcons and Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses will take place on Tuesday, June 3. The match will be held at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) rejected a proposal to move the game to Monday, June 2. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Cameroonian Football Federation had requested the change. However, CAF insisted the original date remains.
The game was initially set for Tuesday, June 3. It was briefly rescheduled to Monday after the first leg, planned for May 31, was canceled. The cancellation happened due to the late arrival of the Cameroonian team in Ikenne. They reached the venue late on Friday night, missing pre-match protocols.
As a result, both teams focused on playing a single match on the original date. The Super Falcons had announced the new date as June 2, but CAF did not approve.
Cameroon’s team has since arrived in Ijebu Ode. They are training ahead of the match in nearby Abeokuta.
This friendly is the Super Falcons’ first game since their 1-0 loss to France last November. It is part of their preparation for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Cameroon did not qualify for WAFCON this year but remains a tough opponent. Nigeria has a strong record against Cameroon. The Lionesses have failed to score in the last six matches against the Super Falcons. Their last win over Nigeria was in 2012.
