The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and the Minister of Defence, Muhammed Badaru. Have commended the wives of military and police officers for their dedication to advancing quality education in Nigeria.
Their remarks came during the groundbreaking and fundraising ceremony for the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA) College, held Tuesday in Abuja.
Represented by the Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Babajimi Benson. Speaker Abbas praised DEPOWA’s initiative, calling it a powerful investment in the future of Nigerian youth. He emphasized that building educational institutions is a direct step toward shaping the lives of young citizen. Especially the children of security personnel who serve the nation.
Abbas highlighted the need for more schools. Pointing to the alarming statistic of 10.5 million Nigerian children aged 5 to 14 who remain out of school. He stressed that DEPOWA’s school project not only addresses this critical gap. It also aligns with the legislative goals of the 10th House of Representatives, which prioritizes education for all Nigerian children.
“The facilities planned for DEPOWA College are impressive and focus on the full development of each child,” Abbas noted. “This project isn’t just about education—it’s about legacy, impact, and opportunity.”
Minister Badaru also hailed the project, describing it as a reflection of the commitment of military and police families to national development. He applauded DEPOWA’s visionary leadership, calling the proposed college a symbol of hope, excellence, and discipline.
According to Badaru, the school will reduce the educational burden on service families while promoting moral integrity and academic achievement. He urged government agencies, private organizations, and philanthropic individuals to support the project generously.
“A generation raised in discipline, knowledge, and patriotism is vital for Nigeria’s unity and progress,” he said. “The Ministry of Defence fully supports this initiative and is committed to its timely completion.”With such strong backing, DEPOWA’s college is set to become a transformative force in Nigeria’s educational landscape.
