The newly installed Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, attributed his emergence as the 46th Alaafin to divine appointment, stating it was free from political influence or personal lobbying. Speaking at a thanksgiving service in Oyo Town, he emphasized having no prior relationship with Governor Seyi Makinde or former Senator Monsurat Sunmonu.
According to his media director, he received his staff of office on January 13, 2025, and his formal installation followed the Oro Ipebi rites on March 29. The monarch called for unity among former contenders and the people of Oyo for the town’s progress.
Former CAN President, Revd. Supo Ayokunle, urged Oba Owoade to lead with courage and spiritual insight, highlighting his divine selection. The service concluded with the presentation of a Holy Bible to the Alaafin, who was accompanied by his wife, Oyo Mesi members, and other dignitaries.
