The Super Eagles have ramped up their preparations for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Zimbabwe, training behind closed doors in Uyo. Head coach Eric Chelle has demanded full concentration from his players as they look to build on their recent victory.
Following their 2-0 win over Rwanda last Friday, the team flew directly to Uyo from Kigali via a chartered Valujet flight. They wasted no time settling in and commenced their first training session on Sunday, maintaining a strict no-access policy for journalists and visitors.
Promise Efoghe, the team’s media officer, confirmed that the decision was made to maintain focus and avoid distractions. “Sunday’s training is closed. Monday’s session will be opened for the mandatory 15 minutes and this will be shortly after the official press conference,” Efoghe stated.
Despite the solid win over Rwanda, coach Eric Chelle remains focused on refining the team’s performance ahead of their encounter with Zimbabwe, a side that held Nigeria to a goalless draw in their first-leg fixture.
“We need to be ready for the next game. I prefer to focus on my team rather than discussing weaknesses. My priority is analysing and improving our own play,” Chelle emphasized.
According to Efoghe, provisions will be made for a mixed-zone interaction with players on match day, ensuring that the media and fans get updates without disrupting the team’s focus.
