The Federal Government has commissioned new power transmission projects across major Lagos substations as part of efforts to expand electricity capacity and support economic growth.
The projects, inaugurated on Aug. 17 and 18 by the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, cover strategic locations including Apapa, Ijora, Lekki and Alausa.
The projects include a 2×60MVA Gas Insulated Substation at Apapa, two 100MVA transformers at Ijora, a 100MVA transformer at Alausa and new transformer installations at the Lekki Transmission Substation.
Together, the projects add 840MVA of transformer capacity to the Lagos transmission network, providing additional bulk power to Eko and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Companies for onward supply to businesses, industries and households.
At Alausa, a new 100MVA transformer increased the substation’s total transformation capacity from 135MVA to 205MVA and increased bulk power available to Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company by 80MW.
The Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, Sule Abdulaziz, said the projects would improve transmission capacity and reduce technical losses.
Experts said the interventions could boost business production, reduce reliance on alternative power sources, attract investment, create jobs and improve electricity reliability across Lagos.
