American singer Beyoncé has paid tribute to country music legend Dolly Parton, who died Tuesday at the age of 80.
In a statement shared on her official website, Beyoncé described Parton as a “north star” who taught generations to embrace their individuality.
She wrote that she was grateful for Parton’s “art, heart, generosity, humor and entrepreneurship,” adding that she was honoured to have worked with her and would treasure the experience forever.
Beyoncé and Parton collaborated on Beyoncé’s 2024 album Cowboy Carter. Parton appeared on the interlude “Dolly P” and contributed to “Tyrant.” Beyoncé also recorded a reworked version of Parton’s classic hit “Jolene” for the album, which Parton publicly praised.
Other major music figures have also mourned the country icon.
Taylor Swift described Parton’s death as difficult to imagine, praising her generosity, resilience and lasting influence on generations of women.
Elton John called Parton “a giant of an artist” who was “unique and irreplaceable,” while Paul McCartney remembered her as a remarkable songwriter, singer and philanthropist.
Oprah Winfrey also paid tribute, saying Parton “brought the light” and that the world was better because she was in it.
Parton’s death has sparked tributes across the entertainment industry, reflecting the enormous influence of her music, philanthropy, humour and trailblazing career beyond country music.
Reports also said United States President Donald Trump ordered American flags to be lowered across the country for one week in honour of the late singer.
