Getafe midfielder Christantus Uche has undergone successful surgery after suffering a serious knee injury during a pre-season friendly against Monaco.
The 23-year-old sustained the injury on August 6 following a tackle from Monaco defender Christian Mawissa. Medical examinations later revealed multiple ligament and meniscus tears in Uche’s right knee.
Uche confirmed on Wednesday that the surgery had gone as planned and thanked the medical team, his representatives, Getafe, teammates and supporters for their encouragement.
The midfielder described the operation as an important first step in a long rehabilitation process and said he was ready to remain patient and work towards his return.
Uche spent last season on loan at Crystal Palace, where limited playing time saw him make 22 appearances and record 477 minutes on the pitch. Palace had an option to sign him permanently but chose not to activate it, resulting in his return to Getafe.
The severity of the injury means Uche will miss the remainder of the season, dealing a major setback to his plans and Getafe’s squad.
Despite the lengthy recovery ahead, the midfielder expressed optimism and thanked fans who had sent messages of support since the injury.
