Nigeria has imported crude oil from Libya for the first time, with about two million barrels supplied in May 2026, as the Dangote Petroleum Refinery continues to diversify its crude sources amid domestic supply challenges.
According to industry data, the refinery imported an average of 64,500 barrels per day from Libya during the month. The development comes as local refiners continue to raise concerns over inadequate domestic crude allocations despite Nigeria’s strong crude export volumes.
The refinery has also sourced crude from Angola, Ghana, the United Arab Emirates and Guyana this year as it ramps up production capacity to meet growing fuel demand. Industry analysts say expanding feedstock sources will help sustain refinery operations while reducing reliance on Nigerian crude alone.
