The Bank of Agriculture (BOA) has distributed agricultural inputs to more than 500,000 farmers across Nigeria in a major effort to strengthen food production and improve national food security. The initiative forms part of the bank’s commitment to supporting smallholder farmers and enhancing agricultural productivity.
Through the programme, beneficiaries received essential farm inputs, including improved seeds, fertilizers, agrochemicals, and other farming materials needed to increase yields. As a result, many farmers are expected to expand cultivation and achieve better harvests during the planting season.
BOA explained that the intervention aligns with the Federal Government’s broader strategy to transform the agricultural sector, create employment opportunities, and reduce food shortages. In addition, the bank reaffirmed its commitment to providing farmers with the financial and technical support required for sustainable agricultural development.
Stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that will help reduce production costs while encouraging increased participation in farming. They also noted that improved access to quality inputs could significantly enhance rural livelihoods and strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.
As the programme continues, BOA aims to reach more farming communities, improve productivity, and contribute to long-term economic growth through a resilient and sustainable agricultural sector.
