Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has expressed concern over the increasing rate of drug abuse among young people, warning that the trend threatens public health, security and economic development.
Speaking at an anti-substance abuse conference in Ilorin, the governor described drug abuse as a major social challenge that contributes to crime, poor educational outcomes and family instability.
He highlighted the state government’s decision to introduce mandatory drug testing in tertiary institutions as part of broader efforts to prevent substance abuse and encourage early intervention.
Stakeholders at the event, including the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and the MTN Foundation, called for stronger collaboration among parents, schools, communities and government agencies to combat the growing menace.
