Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has threatened to reveal the identities of politicians he claims are sponsoring kidnappers operating in Oyo State.
Speaking during a meeting with officials of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Ibadan, Igboho alleged that certain politicians were supplying bandits with funds and ammunition to destabilise the country. He warned that he would publicly expose them if the attacks and abductions continued.
The activist also claimed he had volunteered to lead efforts to rescue students abducted in Oriire Local Government Area but was prevented from doing so by the state government. According to him, authorities later informed him that the kidnappers had threatened to kill the victims if he attempted a rescue operation.
Igboho maintained that his proposed security outfit, “Iru Ekun Security Network,” had received federal approval but faced restrictions from the Oyo State Government. He insisted that his team could successfully flush out criminal elements hiding in forests across the South-West if given the opportunity.
The comments come amid growing concerns over insecurity in Oyo State following the abduction of dozens of pupils and teachers during attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area in May. The incident sparked widespread outrage, particularly after one of the abducted teachers was reportedly killed by the kidnappers.
Security agencies have since intensified efforts to track the attackers, while authorities continue to explore measures aimed at improving security and preventing further attacks in affected communities.
