United Bank for Africa (UBA) has inaugurated a new innovation hub at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), aimed at promoting research, technology, entrepreneurship, and student development.
Speaking during the inauguration, UBA Group Managing Director, Oliver Alawuba, described the project as a strategic investment in education, innovation, and Africa’s future. He said the facility symbolises a renewed partnership between the bank and the university.
The building consists of four floors, with two dedicated to UBA operations and two reserved for university activities. Alawuba disclosed plans to improve digital connectivity around the facility through enhanced Wi-Fi access to support learning and innovation.
He also highlighted UBA’s investments in education through scholarships, essay competitions, and cultural initiatives, while expressing the bank’s readiness to collaborate with the university on artificial intelligence and technology-driven projects.
UNILAG Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, described the project as a major milestone in academia-industry collaboration and called for deeper partnerships in research, internships, entrepreneurship, and financial innovation.
