The Nigerian Navy has reaffirmed its dedication to strengthening education and healthcare services for students in Cross River State, as part of its broader commitment to national development and human capacity building. This initiative forms part of activities marking the Navy’s 70th anniversary.
Speaking during an educational and medical outreach held in Calabar on Tuesday, the Command Education Officer of the Eastern Naval Command, Capt. David Odu, emphasized that the programme reflects the Navy’s strategic vision to deepen civil-military relations. He noted that the initiative also reinforces the Navy’s role in contributing to Nigeria’s socio-economic growth.
Furthermore, Odu highlighted that since its establishment in 1956, the Nigerian Navy has remained consistent in fulfilling its constitutional responsibility of protecting Nigeria’s territorial waters and maritime interests. In addition, he stressed that community-focused engagements remain essential to national stability and development.
Similarly, the Flag Officer Commanding of the Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Chidozie Okehie, reiterated that education remains a powerful tool for societal transformation. Represented by Surgeon Cdr. Ahmadu Mohammed, he explained that both educational and medical outreaches were intentionally included in the anniversary programme to impact communities positively.
He also cautioned students against social vices, particularly drug abuse, stressing that good health is essential for effective learning and personal development. Moreover, he appreciated parents and guardians for their continuous sacrifice in nurturing responsible young citizens who contribute to the moral and intellectual growth of society.
