The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a 63-year-old Chinese woman, Ting Kiong, for allegedly attempting to smuggle 31 kilograms of Canadian Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis, into Nigeria.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that the suspect was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, after arriving from Thailand via Dubai on an Emirates flight.
According to the agency, Kiong, who reportedly works as a carer in Malaysia, claimed her daughter sponsored the trip and that the illicit consignment was handed to her in Thailand for delivery in Nigeria.
The NDLEA also announced the interception of 1.8 million tablets of Tapentadol worth over N2.1bn at the Lagos airport import shed.
In separate operations, operatives arrested another suspect at the Enugu airport after he excreted cocaine pellets, while a building engineer travelling from Abuja to Italy was caught with over 10,000 opioid pills concealed in his luggage.
The agency further disclosed seizures of skunk, tramadol and other illicit substances across Kano, Lagos, Edo and Ekiti states.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), commended officers involved in the operations and urged them to sustain the agency’s anti-drug campaign nationwide.
