The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to activist and social media commentator Justice Chidiebere, popularly known as Justice Crack, over alleged cybercrime offences.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted bail in the sum of N5 million with one surety, who must be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 15 and resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
The activist is facing charges linked to online publications and social media content allegedly considered offensive under the Cybercrimes Act.
During proceedings, the prosecution tendered investigation reports, a mobile phone allegedly recovered from the defendant, and digital evidence said to contain social media videos and conversations.
Defence counsel challenged the admissibility of some of the evidence, particularly a flash drive tendered by the prosecution.
The case was adjourned until May 25 for continuation of trial as debates over online speech and cybercrime enforcement continue to generate public attention in Nigeria.
