The All Progressives Congress in Kwara State has screened out no fewer than 105 aspirants seeking tickets for the State House of Assembly election ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Results released at the party secretariat in Ilorin showed that only 53 out of the 158 aspirants who purchased nomination forms were cleared to continue in the race.
Several serving lawmakers seeking second and third terms were among those declared “uncleared” by the screening committee. In Kwara South, lawmakers including Hon. Ganiyu Folabi Salahu, Hon. Owolabi Olatunde Rasaq and Hon. Yusuf Abdulwaheed Gbenga failed to secure clearance.
The lawmaker representing Edu Constituency, Issa Gideon, who is currently under suspension over alleged misconduct, was also screened out.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, did not seek re-election, fueling speculation over his governorship ambition under the APC.
The development has reportedly created tension among lawmakers and supporters across the state as the ruling party intensifies preparations for the 2027 elections.
