Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially entered the 2027 presidential race under a PDP/APM political alliance, marking a major development in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape. He made the declaration during a massive rally at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, where a large crowd of supporters and political stakeholders gathered in solidarity.
During his speech, Makinde announced, “Today, I, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, FNSE, declare my candidacy for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the PDP/APM alliance.” His entry into the race places him alongside other prominent contenders, including Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, Peter Obi, and Adewole Adebayo, all positioning themselves against President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Furthermore, Makinde warned that Nigeria is gradually drifting toward a one-party system, stressing that democracy could weaken if opposition parties fail to unite. According to him, continuous interference in opposition politics threatens political balance and national stability.
In addition, he highlighted worsening economic and security conditions, noting that many Nigerians are struggling while governance gaps widen. He urged citizens to move beyond political apathy and actively participate in shaping the country’s future.
Transitioning to his broader vision, Makinde described the PDP/APM alliance as the foundation of a stronger opposition coalition. He also declared the emergence of the “Reset Nigeria Movement,” which he said aims to provide alternative leadership and national direction.
Finally, supporters and political leaders at the event described the alliance as a strategic step toward rebuilding trust in governance and strengthening democratic competition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
