Senator Solomon Adeola, widely known as Yayi, has officially taken a decisive step toward the 2027 Ogun State governorship race. Representing Ogun West Senatorial District, the lawmaker secured the N50 million All Progressives Congress (APC) Expression of Interest and Nomination forms, signaling his strong intention to contest for the state’s top seat.
Although Adeola did not appear in person, a proxy obtained the forms on his behalf in Abuja. Meanwhile, the APC National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Argungu, formally declared the process open and presented the nomination documents, marking the beginning of what is expected to be a competitive race within the ruling party.
As political activities intensify, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already outlined a detailed timetable for the 2027 general elections. According to INEC, party primaries, including the resolution of disputes, will run from April 23 to May 30, 2026. Subsequently, campaigns for presidential and National Assembly elections will commence on August 19, 2026, while governorship and state assembly campaigns will begin on September 9, 2026.
Furthermore, the commission confirmed that presidential and National Assembly elections will take place on January 16, 2027. In contrast, governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.
With this development, Adeola has effectively positioned himself as a key contender in Ogun State’s political landscape. As the race unfolds, more updates are expected in the coming weeks.
