Nigeria’s livestock sector could attract up to $3bn in investment over the next three to five years as stakeholders push for private sector-led transformation.
At a high-level forum organised by the African Union Inter-African Bureau for Animal Resources, experts highlighted the sector’s vast potential despite longstanding inefficiencies in production, processing, and market access.
Officials noted that while Nigeria has one of the largest livestock populations in West Africa, low productivity, high feed costs, and poor infrastructure continue to limit growth. With targeted reforms and increased private investment, the sector could significantly boost food security, create jobs, and contribute more to the economy.
